What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a voluntary state of relaxed, attentive concentration. During this state the conscious, critical mind is relaxed and relatively inactive. It becomes more receptive to acceptable, beneficial suggestions. This makes it easier to look at problems and solutions from a more adaptive point of view.

Can hypnosis cure me?
Hypnosis is not a cure in and of itself. It is a tool that compliments therapy. As a therapeutic tool, hypnosis can help uncover the root cause of why you are stuck.

Some problems that respond well to hypnosis are:

  • Anxiety Control
  • Control of unproductive anger such as road rage
  • Pain Control
  • Phobias
  • Insomnia

Also, hypnosis can help:

  • Improve self-confidence
  • Eliminate the cravings behind overeating, smoking, and substance abuse
  • Eliminate embarrassing behavior such as nail biting or bedwetting
  • Improve concentration, memory, and study habits
  • Develop natural abilities
  • Prepare patients for surgery or other medical procedures

Can hypnosis help me when I’m not at Metamorphosis?
Yes. One of the primary benefits of learning hypnosis is becoming adept at self hypnosis, which you can do anywhere. The regular use of self hypnosis can encourage healthy changes in behaviors, feelings, beliefs and attitudes. Practicing self hypnosis conditions your ability to relax at will. It builds your ability to control your mind and your body. More control is the goal, and with more control, you will gain greater ability to control your symptoms.

Can everybody be hypnotized?
Anyone who can pay attention and follow instructions can be hypnotized. However, people do vary in the extent or depth to which they go into hypnosis.

Does it become easier to go into hypnosis over time?
Yes. Like riding a bicycle, it may be hard at first but then becomes second nature.

When people are hypnotized, are they asleep?
Hypnotized clients are not asleep. They become relaxed, comfortable, more focused, and feel as though they are in a dream. This state is similar to the state of mind you reach when you are focused on driving or are absorbed in a good movie. Complete control is maintained and you are always aware. There is always a protective part of the mind that remains alert.

Can a person be hypnotized against his will?
Hypnotism requires the subject to be an active participant. If the subject is not willing, they cannot be hypnotized.

Can a hypnotized person do anything contrary to his/her moral code?
No. People who are hypnotized will not do anything while in hypnosis that they would not do in the waking state. Hypnotized people will accept suggestions that are acceptable and reject suggestions that are unacceptable.

Can a hypnotized person be forced to act in a ridiculous manner or behave like a zombie?
No. The ridiculous behavior associated with hypnosis is only seen during stage shows. During a show, volunteers typically go along with the stage hypnotist’s suggestions because of the party atmosphere. This is not what happens during medical hypnosis. Hypnotized subjects have control over their behavior at all times.

Will I remember being hypnotized, or will I forget everything once awake?
A common misconception is that nothing is remembered after a hypnosis session. Once hypnotized, you can choose to remember what is helpful and to ignore unhelpful ideas.

Can hypnosis weaken the mind?
Hypnosis actually strengthens the mind and helps reach one’s full potential.

Can I become stuck in a trance or somehow be unable to be brought out of hypnosis?
No. You are in control at all times and can become alert at will.

Will I tell any secrets under hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is not a truth serum. Subjects retain full control over what is said. A person will not reveal anything against their will.
